My question is: “who pays<br /> the victim for the life-time scar or the trauma and torture of rape ?<br /> <br /> “I am unable to deviate from the provisions of the law in this instance; the defendant is found guilty as charged and sentenced to life imprisonment,” the judge said.<br /> <br /> The rapist, who is in his 60s was at the time of committing the crime, the Vice- Principal (Academics) at St. Mary’s Girls Grammar School, Ikole-Ekiti.<br /> <br /> Ajayi, who was suspended from the civil service to face the consequences of his action, committed the offence on March 18, 2014.<br /> <br /> Two teachers had stormed the vice-principal’s office but could not gain entry until after about 30 minutes and caught him red-handed.<br /> <br /> The prosecution was led by Mr A.E. Arogundade of the Ministry of<br /> Justice, while the defence team was led by Mr Sule Longe.<br /> <br /> At the arraignment on Oct. 14, 2016, Ajayi had pleaded not guilty.<br /> <br /> The offence contravened Section 31 (2) of the Child Rights Law of Ekiti State 2012.<br /> <br /> The prosecution called eight witnesses including a medical practitioner from the State University Teaching Hospital, police officers who investigated the case, two other pupils and a teacher in the school.<br /> <br /> Exhibits tendered include a medical report, statement of the accused, report of the panels set up by the school authorities and Teaching Service Commission, medical report from the police clinic, statement of the victim, among others.<br /> <br /> The two panels set up to investigate the case indicted Ajayi which led to his suspension from service after which he was arrested and prosecuted.

UN discovers untapped energy sources in Nigeria

<br /> <br /> The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) on Friday urged the Federal Government to explore renewable energy by utilising the country’s untapped energy sources, estimated at 93,950 Megawatts (MW).<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> The ECA Chief Sub-Regional officer, Data Centre, Mr. Bakary Dosso, made the appeal at the launch of the ECA Country Profile 2016 Report for Nigeria in Abuja.<br /> <br /> Dosso said the ECA report showed that Nigeria was blessed with abundant untapped energy resources of about 93,950MW.<br /> <br /> The ECA chief said: “The country is home to enormous energy resources such as petroleum, natural gas, coal, nuclear power and tar sands.<br /> <br /> “Other resources include solar, wind, biomass and hydropower.<br /> <br /> “However, development and exploitation of energy sources has been skewed in favour of hydropower, petroleum and natural gas.<br /> <br /> “Nigeria has an untapped potential to produce 93,950MW from carbon-emission-free energy sources, which include small and large hydroelectric power plants of 68 per cent and nuclear power which is 21 per cent.<br /> <br /> “Also, Nigeria has an untapped potential of seven per cent solar and photovoltaic and onshore wind, two per cent.”<br /> <br /> Dosso said despite such potential, it was sad that half of the population depended on wood, charcoal, manure and crop residues for energy.<br /> <br /> He added that Nigeria had a total installed electricity capacity of 12,522MW and an available current capacity of only about 4,500MW.<br /> <br /> He urged the federal government to seize the opportunities to improve the power situation in the country.<br /> <br /> NAN

To them, these pull-outs could lead to a loss of jobs, poor network maintenance, loss of foreign investor confidence and the corresponding domino effect on the other operators, subscribers and the sector itself, if adequate measures are not taken.<br /> <br /> Takeover, a bad precedence A telecom sector analyst Dr. Thompson Ona said: “what has been happening to Etisalat over the past three to four months on this loan saga should be of concern to every Nigerian. If the precedent of allowing the banks to take over a telecommunications company is created, Nigeria may not be able to deal with the domino effect on many fronts. What expertise do the banks possess to run a telecommunications company? Where is Mobitel today after a bank took it over? “Remember, Etisalat has employed a lot of Nigerians who are bread winners in their respective homes. If this situation leads to loss of jobs, can you imagine the number of people that would be affected? Most importantly, how can we convince a foreign investor to come and invest in the sector which we incidentally are positioning to take over as the mainstay of the economy from oil? These are the critical factors the two regulators, particularly the NCC should consider and do everything humanly possible to forestall this anomaly about to happen.” EMTS, trading as Etisalat Nigeria, is a Nigerian company duly incorporated under the laws of Nigeria in partnership with Mubadala Development Company and Etisalat of the United Arab Emirates.<br /> <br /> It acquired the Unified Access Licence from the Federal Government in January 2007. The licence includes a mobile licence and spectrum in the GSM 1800 and 900 MHz bands. Etisalat acquired a 40 per cent stake in EMTS and became the operator of the Unified Access Licence. NCC vows to protect Etisalat Meanwhile, the NCC has sounded a clear warning that a takeover may have complications due to the provisions of the Nigerian Communications Act. Director Public Affairs of NCC, Mr Tony Ojobo, in a statement, said: “The commission has drawn the attention of the banks to provisions of the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) 2003 Section 38: Sub section 1: The grant of a licence shall be personal to the licencee and the licence shall not be operated by, assigned, sub licensed or transferred to another party unless the prior written approval of the commission has been granted; Sub section 2: A licencee shall at all times comply by the terms and conditions of the licence and the provision of this act and its subsidiary legislation.<br /> <br /> The NCC wishes to reassure the over 21 million Etisalat subscribers that it will do all within its regulatory power to ensure that Etisalat subscribers continue to enjoy the services provided by the operator.” Loan impact, minimal on banks: Just as NCC was cautioning on takeover, a research based and emerging markets investment firm in the United Kingdom, Exotix Capital, has asked the banks to manage the debt as it only has minimal impact on their operations. The firm in a research report entitled ‘Nigeria Banks’, said the impact of the $1.2bn syndicate loans out of which about 42 per cent ($504m) has been repaid, was modest. Head of Equities Financials Research, Rahul Shah and Equity Research Analyst, Jumai Mohammed, disclosed that “we estimate a modest impact on banks.<br /> <br /> At a headline level, loans to Etisalat Nigeria represent 1.9 per cent of aggregate bank loans. Likewise on our sensitivity analysis, the Etisalat loans would on average have a -12 per cent, -2 per cent and -0.3bp impact on our FY17f net profit, equity and capital adequacy ratios for the banks, respectively. We believe the banks should easily be able to absorb a shock of this magnitude.” Geometric growth: The telecom company made the first official call on its network on March 13, 2008 in the presence of officials from the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, and the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In September of same year, it kicked off commercial operations with the 0809uchoose campaign which enabled Nigerians choose numbers special to them as their mobile numbers. The company since then has grown in geometrically accumulating over 21 million subscribers on its network, over 5000 on its employment and well over 13 percent market share.<br /> <br /> It has also made investments in network infrastructure, roll out expansion, mobile broadband and other Corporate Social Responsibility and development initiatives, including the Etisalat prizes for innovation and Literature. Its partner, the Etisalat of UAE has been the telecommunications service provider in the United Arab Emirates since 1976 and has footprints in 18 countries traversing the Middle East, Asia and Africa.<br /> <br /> In its many years of operations, it has built up state-of-the-art telecom infrastructure and taken a leadership position of innovation, and quality service delivery among regional and international operators. This gave Nigerians hope that despite being about the last entrant in the Nigerian telecom sector, it has all it takes to help EMTS weather the storm.<br /> <br /> To actually prove this, the three investors making up Etisalat Nigeria unfolded their investment plans to make the brand a strong competition to already existing operators. Network rehabilitation: In April 2013, the company announced it would invest over $500 million to expand its network, enabling further potential market growth of 17 per cent and went ahead to obtain a medium term loan of $1.2bn from a consortium of 13 banks, which it used to refinance an existing $650 million loan and fund a modernisation of its network. The loan, which involved a foreign-backed guaranty bond, was for it to finance a major network rehabilitation and expansion of its operational base in Nigeria.<br /> <br /> However since 2016, the consortium of banks has been having a running battle with the mobile telephone operator over repayment of the loan facility.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, Etisalat said that it had consistently serviced the debt until when it began to experience cash flow problems following the steep depreciation of the naira and the impact on its foreign currency denominated exposure. It, however, revealed that the outstanding loan sum to the consortium stands at $227m and N113bn, a total of about $574m if the naira portion is converted to US Dollars.<br /> <br /> This in essence means almost half of the original loan of $1.2bn has been repaid. Following breakdown in negotiations, the company’s two foreign investors, Emirates Telecommunications Service and Mubadala withdrew their interest in the concern, compounding the problems of EMTS. Now, it appears a takeover is most likely but Etisalat Nigeria said some options, including restructuring of the shareholding and change in ownership are being considered even as final arrangements regarding ownership and board structure are still in development stage.

They also prayed the court to note that “at no point was signature taking process conducted by anybody in Kogi West.”<br /> <br /> It further warned INEC to stop forthwith the recall process, noting that the court should be allowed to do justice in the matter. “INEC, being a constitutionally constituted organ of government should halt any further action pending the court’s adjudication. “The people of Kogi West have sued those involved to court for forgery of their signatures in a desperate attempt to recall Senator Dino Melaye, it added.

The Magistrate, Mr Idowu Olayinka, said that all evidences tendered in court during the trial proved beyond reasonable doubts that the accused committed the three-count offences preferred against him. Olayinka, in his judgment, said: “After all evidences tendered in court, I find the accused guilty of the three-count charge of fraud forgery and false representation. “I consequently sentence the accused to five years imprisonment without an option of fine.”<br /> <br /> Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Olakunle Shonibare, told the court that the accused committed the offences sometime between March and May 2017 at Alani Abiodun Street, Alogi in Obantoko area of Abeokuta. Shonibare said the accused, who claimed to be a government-licensed recruitment agent for ministries, departments and agencies, fraudulently obtained various sums of money from 17 job applicants and appropriated the money. “Owoyale fraudulently obtained N1. 48 million from one Kolawole Ogbontolu and 16 others on the pretext of assisting them to secure jobs at the Federal Ministry of Education.<br /> <br /> “The accused also collected N60,000 from his wife, and gave her an appointment letter stating that she was posted to the Federal Secretariat Complex in Ogun. “The complainant had to resign his previous job and also gave the accused another N70,000 after which the accused also gave him another appointment letter into the same Federal Ministry of Education. “For that reason, the complainant introduced 15 other people to the accused all of whom he promised to assist to secure jobs. “When the complainant submitted the appointment letter at the Ministry of Education, Federal Secretariat in Ogun, he was told that the employment letters were fake,” Shonibare said.<br /> <br /> The prosecutor also said the accused forged the signature of one Mr Jamila Shaura, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education and also printed the letter heads of the ministry for the illegal transactions. He said the impostor also presented himself as an official of the Federal Ministry of Education in Abeokuta. The offences contravened Sections 390 (a), (d) , 419, 480, and 486 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Fk089WR2Whw/WVZ7qofBgYI/AAAAAAAAWRY/PZzgNvC8QA0ZGIM8lQqAlGEqfyORVyibwCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/inec.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Fk089WR2Whw/WVZ7qofBgYI/AAAAAAAAWRY/PZzgNvC8QA0ZGIM8lQqAlGEqfyORVyibwCK4BGAYYCw/s320/inec.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> <br /> The Assistant Auditor of the All Progressives Party in Osun State, Tajudeen Adekunbi, and the Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Olatunji Popoola have asked the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo to disqualify the APC candidate in Osun West Senatorial District by-election, Senator Mudasiru Hussain.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Another member of the APC in the state, Mr. Basiru Adigun, and the two politicians filed a suit before the court asking for Hussain’s disqualification ahead of July 8 by-election on the grounds that he ( APC candidate) did not resign his appointment as a commissioner 30 days before the date of the poll.<br /> <br /> Apart from the APC candidate, the plaintiffs joined the Independent National Electoral Commission; Osun State Government; Chairman of the APC screening committee for the by-election, Sanusi  Rikiji and chairman of the appeal committee of the APC,  Abdullahi Bello as defendants in the suit.<br /> <br /> The plaintiffs claimed that Hussain did not resign 30 days before the date of the election as prescribed by the constitution, saying he should be disqualified based on the violation of the constitution.<br /> <br /> In the originating summon and a sworn affidavit deposed to by the first plaintiff, Popoola, the plaintiff asked the court to determine whether the qualification for senatorial election is not governed by Section 65 and 66 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended.<br /> <br /> The plaintiffs asked to “Whether the disqualification of the 1st defendant (Hussain) by the 3rd defendant (Rikiji) and 4th defendant (Bello) is not in compliance with the term and tenure of Section 66(1)(f) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 and APC 2014 guidelines for nomination of candidates for public office.<br /> <br /> “Whether the 5th defendant (INEC) can validly accept the 1st defendant as the candidate of the 2nd defendant (APC) for the purpose of 8th July 2017 Osun West Senatorial by-election, the 1st defendant having not resigned his appointment from the public service of the 6th defendant (Osun State government) as Commissioner in charge of cabinet matters less than 30 days before the said by-election.”</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Assistant Commissioner of Police and head of Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Abba Kyari, has urged members of the public to ignore most of the comments purportedly made by kidnap kingpin, Chukwudubem Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><img src="http://cdn1.dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/evans.png" /></div> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">He stressed that most of the information shared about the kidnapper was false</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">According to Kyari, the strategy used by security agents to track and nab Evans was confidential information that was known to only him and a few senior officers in the Police force, which was in contrast to what had filtered into the public domain.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">He noted that Evans faced the media only twice and could not have been issuing public statements on a daily basis as conveyed by some section of the media.</div> <blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">Kyari said on his Facebook page: “Friends: There is a need to clear the air on some issues that are misinforming/misleading the good members of the public who are passionate about fighting crime.<br /> “First, 90 percent of all information relating to the arrest of Evans and what Evans said that’s being shared on social media and some print media are false.<br /> “Just like most Nigerians, I wake up every morning and hear different false stories on social media pertaining to how we arrested Evans and what he said.<br /> “Second, the actual strategy and technology we used in arresting vampire, Evans and other big kidnappers is known to only me and very few senior officers I am working together with in the FHQ.<br />  “Third, someone like Evans would never have been arrested based on the few technics that were officially mentioned or the ones circulating in social media which are actually technics already known to criminals.<br /> “We’ve gone ahead of those technics. Our real strategy and technology used in picking Evans and his gang members have never been mentioned to the media or members of the public, and will never be mentioned.<br /> “Fourth, Evans faced the media twice; first when he was paraded in the Lagos command HQ by the Force Public Relations Officer and secondly when he took IRT detectives to his detention camps in Lagos for the world to witness him taking the police to his camp that only him and his boys knows. Moving forward, the purveyors of mischievous stories can learn from this precedent that has been set. The ruling by Justice Adeyinka Oyinloye, will serve as a deterrent to all those who profit by propagating ‘Fake News’ to blackmail innocent citizens or curry undue favours.<br /> <br /> “This judgement is definitely not a victory for the Senate President alone. It is a victory for all the victims of the falsehood which Sahara Reporters daily dole out to rubbish the reputation of innocent Nigerians, many of whom either out of fear, lack of the patience to consistently pursue a court case for years or lack of belief in the ability of the system to give them justice decided to live with the injury to their reputation. The judgement is another vindication for our country and her solid enthronement of the rule of law as against the rule of men.<br /> <br /> “Dr Saraki believes this judgement would provide inspiration and encouragement for all those whose reputations have been unduly and unnecessarily injured by SaharaReporters and its ilk who are purveyors of false news to seek redress through the courts.<br /> <br /> “He sees the verdict of the High Court against Sahara Reporters as a positive development with the potential to reassure individuals and firms who would in future come under undeserved attack by publications which spread falsehood aimed at maliciously casting them in bad light.<br /> <br /> “The judgement provides a redeeming point for the noble profession of journalism which has as its sacred, cardinal principle the pursuit of facts at all times and in all situations. The journalists and news media who have devoted themselves to the pursuit of truth but appear to be overwhelmed by those who trade in falsehood and sensationalism now have a reason to be proud that they are on the right path. That is another meaning Dr. Saraki gives to this judgement.<br /> <br /> “However, the Senate President will like to assure all and sundry that he will not spare any legal efforts and expenses, both in Nigeria and abroad, necessary to recover every kobo of the cost awarded in his favour from the defendant.<br /> <br /> “The restitution from this judgement will be channeled to set up a Foundation whose aim will be to support pure and unadulterated investigative journalism and assist the families of real journalists that die in the line of duty. The money will also be used to support genuine publications whose owners are struggling to pay salaries of workers or meet their ever rising running cost. Part of the money will also be channelled to help lawyers who have been providing pro bono services to litigants, particularly, on cases bothering on enforcement of fundamental human rights.<br /> <br /> “It should be noted that the methodical and dogged manner in which Dr. Saraki pursued the case despite the ceaseless barrage of false allegations thrown at him by the Sahara Reporters should assure all Nigerians that he maintains a solid belief in free press, free speech and responsible journalism and that he will do every thing legal to fight those who want to use journalism as a destructive, blackmail and oppressive instrument. This latter brand of journalism will not help our society and has no role to play in the emerging Nigeria”, he stated.</div>

Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State had recently alleged that President Buhari was on life-support in a London Hospital where he is receiving medical attention.<br /> <br /> The national chairman, however, refused to respond to the governor’s comment, saying he would do that at an appropriate time.<br /> <br /> “If I respond, I will be dignifying him.<br /> <br /> “At the appropriate time, people will answer him; at the appropriate level; at the appropriate time.<br /> <br /> “He is in a different world altogether.’’<br /> <br /> According to him, the party’s leadership has confidence in President Buhari.<br /> <br /> He added that the meeting x-rayed the nation, ongoing agitation for its restructuring and inciting statements emanating from different parts of the country.<br /> <br /> Odigie-Oyegun stressed that such inciting statements are not good “for the nation`s health and have to be stopped’’.<br /> <br /> According to him, the party maintains its earlier position on the restructuring of the country as clearly stated in its manifesto.<br /> <br /> He further said the party’s leadership would do all it could at all times to ensure that the unity of the country was preserved.<br /> <br /> He added that the APC leadership was ready to listen to whatever grievances any group in the country might have.</div>

Even if they had wanted the car, they should have written to me or waited for me to come back.<br /> <br /> “But they stormed the premises in my absence and collected the car. What has car got to do with the missing relief materials?”<br /> <br /> Letters made available indicated that the Director of Administration, Governor’s Office, David Edem, had, on June 9, requested for the return of the vehicle.<br /> <br /> The letter read in part, “With compliments and best wishes from the office of the governor, I most respectfully request you to please return the black Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Jeep officially allocated to you by this office on September 6, 2016.<br /> <br /> “The vehicle with chassis number JTEBX9F…71, is required to boost our depleted fleet and deepen our service delivery. Any inconvenience caused by this request is regretted, while thanking you for your understanding.”<br /> <br /> Similarly on June 15, the Transport Officer in the Governor’s Office, Bisong Egbe, in a handwritten acknowledgement, noted, “I acknowledge receipt of vehicle, a Prado Jeep returned by Senator Ita-Giwa. The vehicle is in good and working condition.”<br /> <br /> When contacted on Friday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Christian Ita, simply said, “We won’t join issues with her.”<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, the National Coordinator of Bakassi IDPs, Prince Aston Inyang; and the Akpabuyo camp leader of Bakassi returnees, Chief Etim Ene, berated those trying to allegedly tarnish the image of Ita-Giwa.<br /> <br /> Specifically, Ene said, “They want to tarnish the image of our national leader, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, who is a mother of all.<br /> <br /> “Since 2008 when we were first displaced from our homes, she has been the one that has been taking care of the people.”</div>

Andy Uba.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Justice Valentine Ashi ‎said the law says that he who asserts must prove; and that the plaintiff had failed to lead the court with further evidence.<br /> <br /> Ashi said that the ‎plaintiff should have investigated and gotten his facts from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which cleared the defendant as being eligible for elections.<br /> <br /> He said the plaintiff should have also conducted checks at Union Secondary School, Awkunawu, Enugu State, where the defendant said he obtained his School Leaving Certificate as opposed to Boys’ High School, Awkunawu, which the plaintiff claimed.<br /> <br /> The judge dismissed the suit and said the plaintiff failed to investigate the defendant’s claims and therefore failed to prove the forgery case against him.<br /> <br /> ‎Nnadi had sued Uba on the grounds that he presented a forged School certificate from Boys’ High School, Awkunawu, and so unqualified and ineligible to stand for elections.<br /> <br /> Uba, in his counter affidavit, ‎however, denied ownership of the said certificate and maintained that he graduated from Union Secondary School, Awkunawu, which he submitted to INEC and was properly cleared. </div>

In the last two years, we have had many cases of persons accused of corruption taken to the courts.<br /> <br /> “We have a hardworking and courageous team as most of our law enforcement agencies and the EFCC have worked commendably despite daunting challenges.<br /> <br /> “Of course they are not perfect and there are several complaints, but what is obvious is that they have focused on the work of investigation and prosecution and in fact, very few convictions and there are several reasons for that.<br /> <br /> “The most notorious of which are the delays in our administration of justice system mainly caused, sometimes by lawyers whose defence strategy is delayed.<br /> <br /> “Often judges have indulged these tactics by not taking firm control of their courts. A witness in a case being cross-examined for over a month.<br /> <br /> “An important lesson for any society that is fighting systemic corruption, is that corruption will fight back viciously, using every means possible, and sometimes, using the very constitutions that are created to fight it.<br /> <br /> “We have experienced and continued to experience that but the antidote is single-minded commitment.<br /> <br /> “And I must say that we are permitted to ensure that we will continue to fight against corruption despite whatever obstacles involved,” Osinbajo stated.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, John Oyegun, has again listed what his party actually promised Nigerians during the buildup to the 2015 elections.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><img src="http://cdn1.dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/John-Odigie-Oyegun.jpg" /></div> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">He maintained that the ruling party never promised to restructure the country.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The party chairman said they were aware of the contentious nature of restructuring and therefore avoided it when putting together the manifesto.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Oyegun, spoke while fielding questions on a Channels Television early morning show, Sunrise Daily.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">He also dismissed the possibility of the APC government allowing the emergence of a Biafran Republic.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">He said all contentious issues would be addressed by the government.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Oyegun said the APC promised to address the economic challenges facing the country, to put food on the table of the ordinary Nigerian and create jobs for the teeming youths.</div> <blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">He said, “When the APC manifesto was being put together, it was discussed extensively.<br /> “We chose our words carefully in putting that manifesto together and we are committed to what we have said in that manifesto. Or will he say his number one preference is a job, food on the table, economic prospect and restoration of hope in the future?<br /> “Will restructuring be the panacea that will solve that problem? That is the challenge we are confronted with as the APC.<br /> “What is our priority at this stage? Is the nature of eye economy such that we can now embark on that very complicated issue?<br /> “It is complicated, it is contentious and a lot of people talk about it without any commonality.<br /> “We have stated clearly what we want to do, devolution and true federalism. We really avoided the word restructuring because it means so many things to so many people.<br /> “So yes, short answer to your question, we are coming to that but our priority for now, for today is to fix the economy and restore hope, provide jobs to the teaming millions of our youths in all over the country. So it is a matter of priority.<br /> “What is more important, to fix the economy or to embark on this political issue with all the contentious and different interpretation that the public give to it?<br /> “It is very specific on the manifesto and we are not going to renege on it, no question about that. After three tries, he succeeded in becoming the head of state. </div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">My support for him in the last election was based on my inclination that President Buhari can finally finish the job he started 30 years earlier.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Regardless of his current policy failures, I and millions of Nigerians are now convinced that the President, despite all his intentions, is incapable of discharging his duties. Therefore, he should resign or be forced to do so, by the Senate, or the executive council as prescribed in the Nigerian constitution.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The Nigerian electorate voted for Buhari as head of state.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Currently we have an acting President.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The problem with the current situation is that the acting president is not fully in charge of the country.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">There is no proof that any elected official, including leaders of both houses of assembly have seen the President in the last several weeks.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">There is no proof that even the vice President or any member of the cabinet of President Buhari has spoken to him in his current incapacitated state.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">I love and respect President Buhari and I wish and pray fervently for God to give him strength to gain back his health.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">But I love Nigerian more. I fear for my country, I fear for the future of millions of Nigerians both living and unborn.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Therefore, I cannot stand by and allow the current leadership vacuum that exists in out polity to continue.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">There are several current agitations for the restructuring of Nigeria.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">If Nigeria needs a strong leader, it is now. Unless a strong leader emerges that has the full authority of Nigerians, the country may descend into chaos.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Our elected leader is indisposed, due to no fault of his own.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Therefore, if we love our country, we must collectively urge our President to face his health issues and let Nigeria be led fully by a capable Vice President as prescribed by the constitution.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">As it stands, the Vice President takes direction from the so called Cabal, who passes such instruction under the pretext that they come from the President. </div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">No one can confirm the present condition of the President. I urge you all to be committed in this fight using your various platforms.<br /> <br /> “The root cause of the hate speeches by the Arewa and Igbo youths is corruption. Some people are actually funding them.<br /> <br /> “The looters of our common wealth are the ones responsible for the woes bedevilling Nigeria. We must do everything possible to secure the unity of this country.<br /> <br /> “People who don’t deserve anything are taking everything and if there is no common consensus to halt the trend, the future of our children yet unborn will be mortgaged.’’<br /> <br /> Magu urged the participants to take a critical look at the social media platforms of EFCC and come up with suggestions on how to make them better.<br /> <br /> In a presentation, Mr Joe Abah, the Director-General of the Bureau for Public Service Reforms, commended the EFCC, describing it as the leading anti-graft agency in Nigeria.<br /> <br /> Abbah said “EFCC deserves a lot of credit. You are doing a great job. Your work is what we all need you to do but many of us don’t want you to do the work.<br /> <br /> “EFCC is clearly chatting a new path for social media engagement for the anti-graft agencies looking at its statistics on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Google+, and Instagram.”<br /> <br /> He stressed the need for all anti-graft agencies to constantly compare note to improve information sharing and synergy across the social media.<br /> <br /> A prominent blogger, Mr Joshua Omojuwa, who spoke on “Digital Media in Nigeria”, said “one could not deny the great works and achievements of the EFCC.”<br /> <br /> Omojuwa noted that the EFCC Twitter handle “was strong”, rating it as the twitter handle of the year 2017.<br /> <br /> He further shed light on how the new media could be used to make the job of corruption fight more effective.<br /> <br /> He said “social media pages should be domiciled in your website, which is the headquarters of your activities in the commission.<br /> <br /> “You need to start creating visual contents.”<br /> <br /> He warned that the commission should be wary of hackers, saying he had noticed that the EFCC had many fake Facebook accounts.<br /> <br /> While noting that this could be damaging to the image of the commission, the blogger advised that Facebook should be contacted to block the fake accounts.<br /> <br /> Lauretta Onochie, the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, urged Nigerians to join the President Muhammadu Buhari Administration in tackling the “hydra-headed monster called corruption.<br /> <br /> “Corruption has been a hindrance in the wheel of progress of the country. We need to stand up against corruption.<br /> <br /> “Let us live as patriots of our nation. I plead with every Nigerian to support the nation and the EFCC in the anti-corruption war. Let us all come together and kill corruption.”<br /> <br /> The conference was an initiative of the Public Affairs Directorate of the EFCC, the first social and electronic media programme review by the agency.<br /> <br /> The initiative was part of the commission’s efforts to enhance its communication strategies and channels used in engaging the public in the fight against corruption.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The Buhari Support Organisation (BSO) on Friday hailed Chief John Nnia Nwodo, President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo for coming to terms with how dangerous the hate and provocative speeches of Nnamdi Kanu, could be to Igbo interest and Nigeria in general.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><img src="http://cdn1.dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Nnamdi-Kanu-620x386.png" /></div> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">BSO made the commendation in a statement on Friday by Eze Chibueze, its Enugu State Publicity Secretary.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">Chibueze was reacting to a statement by Chief John Nnia Nwodo, disowning Kanu and his movement for making a declaration that governorship election would not hold in Anambra State in November as well as the coronation of Kanu as superior Ochiagha Ndigbo.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">The BSO spokesman said until now, they were jolted when Ohanaeze was tacitly backing Nnamdi Kanu, a young man who had no fixed address in England, only to return to Nigeria to cause confusion.</div> <div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">According to Chibueze, “it is never too late to make amends,” adding that “a stitch in time saves nine.”</div> <blockquote class="tr_bq" style="text-align: justify;">The statement read further: “We of Buhari Support Organisation Enugu State are glad to hear our dear senior brother, Chief Nnia Nwodo president of Ohaneze coming to terms with the danger posed by Nnamdi Kanu’s rhetorical hate speeches. Kanu has put in contention Eze Igbo.<br /> “It is never too late to make amends. Otherwise we were jolted when Ohaneze was tacitly backing Nnamdi Kanu, a young man who has no fixed address in England, only to return to Nigeria to cause confusion.”<br /> “To be frank we are glad to hear Ohaneze publicly disown Nnamdi Kanu and his group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, via a terse statement by Nwodo, saying ‘News that reached us in the past few days that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, has declared that there will be no election in Anambra State in November is shocking and disturbing.
