Afolabi.<br /> <br /> The suit was brought through originating summons under Order 3, Rules 6 and 9 of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure, Rules 2009; Section 14 and 147 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended and the inherent jurisdiction of the court.<br /> <br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> The plaintiff prayed the court to determine whether or not Buhari has observed the dictates of Federal Character in the appointment of his ministers as provided for in Section 147 of 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended when Ministers of State who, according to him, have no constitutional recognition and obligation, are shared and apportioned to 14 states of Nigeria, as against full-fledged ministers representing other states of the federation.<br /> <br /> Muritala, who is also an Ilorin-based legal practitioner, further urged the court to determine whether or not Buhari has not offended Section 138 of 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended by holding executive role of the Minister of Petroleum during the pendency of his tenure as the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria.<br /> <br /> He prayed the court that if the answers to the questions are in the affirmative, to declare that Buhari is incapable of holding the post of Minister of Petroleum during the pendency of his tenure as the President of the country.<br /> <br /> Muritala added that the court should declare that appointment of Ministers of State as representatives of some states in Nigeria is unconstitutional as, according to him, same do not reflect federal character as enshrined in sections 14 and 147 of 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria.<br /> <br /> The plaintiff urged the court to make an order compelling and/or directing Buhari to appoint ministers in those states in place of Ministers of State earlier appointed.<br /> <br /> Sambo Muritala also prayed the court for an order directing Buhari to relinquish the post of Minister of Petroleum to any person of his choice in line with the Constitution as, according to him, same runs contrary to the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria.<br /> <br /> He also pleaded with the court for such further or other orders as the court might deem fit to make in the circumstances of this case.<br /> <br /> When the matter came up on Wednesday, Muritala moved an ex parte application and prayed the court for substituted service.<br /> <br /> He pleaded the court that Buhari and Malami be served through substituted service by sending the originating summons and all other processes of court through DHL and file the endorsement and return copy to the court.<br /> <br /> The judge granted the applications and adjourned the matter till Feburary 21 for hearing.

They are bent, as it clearly seems, on crushing all hopes of ridding this country of the scourge of corruption.<br /> <br /> As the President keeps saying, in sixteen years that the party held sway, we solely relied on oil, the price of which was as high as US$140 per barrel. Government simply squandered oil revenue through personal spending by corrupt leaders, wasteful expenses and salaries. This was done rather than growing the economy through capital investment in assets like seaports, airports, power plants, railways, roads and housing as this administration is currently doing. Nigeria did not record a single major infrastructural project in the 10 years preceding the Buhari administration. In short, the money was mismanaged, spent largely on what was not needed and no savings were made. They compounded the problem by borrowing heavily and failed woefully to pay contractors and international oil companies.<br /> <br /> The last two years of this administration have revealed the massive and unrivalled level of corruption in which the PDP and its leaders at the highest level thrived so it mustn’t surprise anyone really that they have chosen their obstructionist role rather than lending a helping hand in the fight against corruption.<br /> By a rough estimate, the amount of money including the value of estates recovered (or in the process of being recovered) from a single woman (Madam), by virtue of being close to power can pay for the construction and equipping a cancer treatment hospital for each of the six geopolitical the Federation, and still counting.<br /> So, if you have noticed, the barbs came out in the last few weeks ostensibly to cast a pall on this continental honour to President Buhari and to Nigeria which, in terms of added significance had the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Anthony Gutierrez at hand giving full support.<br /> <br /> Indeed, it is both a tragedy and an opportunity that this honour on Nigeria and our leader is in its timing, is coming amid heightened criticism of his well-recognized efforts to purge the country of bribery, corruption and illicit cash outflows that have become so entrenched to the point of forming a strong a normative social practice.<br /> To help Africa lead this fight, leaders of the 55 countries making up the African Union, AU leaned on President Muhammadu Buhari who swept to power in 2015 vowing to get to grips with graft and unbridled looting of public resources which is undermining the Nigerian economy.<br /> <br /> In its two-and-a-half years in office, the administration has made significant strides in its efforts to identify and block loopholes through which oil revenues are stolen; payrolls are populated with ghost and non-existent workers and devised ways of blocking criminals as well as corrupt businessmen and officials from laundering illicit wealth.<br /> <br /> As aptly captured by retired Ambassador Usman Sarki, the former Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, “this well-deserved laurel on Mr. President’s brow demonstrates the close affinity between domestic policy and foreign policy, particularly in matters that have transnational and global significance like fighting corruption.<br /> <br /> “Through concerted advocacy and demonstrable leadership shown by Mr. President, the world and Africa have now come to accept the fact that Nigeria is making progress in the anti-corruption front. This positive achievement is now acknowledged as an example of best practice for others in Africa.<br /> <br /> “The African Union’s selection of this subject as the theme for this year’s summit meeting is not only of symbolic significance. The AU has come to recognize that corruption is an egregious problem that has fostered many ills all over the Continent.<br /> <br /> “Appointing an Anti-corruption Champion is appropriate and timely, and an indication of the prioritization of the fight against the scourge by all of Africa. This is the logical outcome of many previous initiatives by the AU, such as its high-level panel (jointly with UNECA) on illicit financial flows (IFF) from Africa that was chaired by H.E. Thabo Mbeki.<br /> <br /> “Giving this honourable task to President Buhari is therefore, recognition of his mettle and reinforcing the evident commitment that he has shown to eradicating this evil in Nigeria. While Mr. President can be trusted to guide by example and provide the needed leadership, it is also important for others to support his efforts.”<br /> As widely-reported in his speech on the launch of the African Anti-Corruption Year dubbed Project 2018 on the theme, “Winning the Fight against Corruption: A sustainable path to Africa’s Transformation,” the President showed a clear understanding of what the task entails and showed a readiness of the rare type to take on the assignment diligently. In his words: “I promise that I and my government shall do our very best to ensure that the anti-corruption agenda receives the attention it deserves.”<br /> <br /> He made it clear that corruption is indeed one of the greatest enemies of our time; that it runs completely counter to our shared values as Africans of justice, the sense of fairness, law and order and equity and equality. Corruption, he said, rewards those who do not play by the rules and also creates a system of patronage where the resources are shared out by a small elite, while the majority are trapped in poverty.<br /> <br /> When it comes to tackling corruption, President Buhari noted that the Continent has made significant strides in putting in place legal and policy frameworks, notably the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption (AUCPCC). However, the adoption of legal and policy frameworks on their own have not had the desired success in tackling this evil. This, he noted, is one of the driving reasons why the AU has designated 2018 the African Anti-Corruption Year. The idea is to scale up the efforts during 2018.<br /> <br /> Notably, fifteen (15) years after the adoption of the AUCPCC, 2018 provides a good opportunity to take stock of the progress made so far, assess what still needs to be done and devise new strategies that appropriately address new corruption challenges.<br /> <br /> While the continent has seen sustained socio-economic growth over the past two decades, public confidence has been corroded by a concentration on near-term priorities and payoffs, propelled by corruption. We see the negative impacts of corruption in governance through the creation of political and business cartels that serve narrow interests.<br /> <br /> The President noted, “let us not view the fight against corruption as an end in itself, but rather as an instrument in the fight to eliminate poverty and restore justice, order and dignity to our societies.<br /> <br /> ”In particular, he recognized the leading role that the media can play in this fight: “you the media have a strong role to play in public sensitization and awareness and requesting and publishing information to increase transparency to hold public institutions and governments to account.”<br /> <br /> In expounding on the theme, he expressed the view that corruption has an especially devastating impact on marginalized communities notably youth, women and children. “The effects of corruption breed unequal societies that render vulnerable groups susceptible to human trafficking and displacement, recruitment into armed groups and militia and it deprives them of opportunities to develop their livelihoods.”<br /> <br /> To this end, he announced that the AU would organize a Youth Congress on Corruption to address the specific challenges and impacts that corruption has on our emerging leaders. Engaging young leaders is especially important in developing a new attitude to transparency and accountability.<br /> <br /> According to President Buhari, the manifestation of corruption in Africa is also a reflection of the need for stronger leadership and oversight institutions. “Tackling corrupt acts and greed require a reorientation of our attitudes and perceptions to corrupt practices. Changing the state of play requires retraining and education as a means to instil better and more transparent values, he said.”<br /> <br /> He then announced that as part of the activities during the year his leadership would bring about engagements with key actors in the fight against corruption including parliamentarians, the media, the business community and faith based groups. “As corruption cuts across every sector in society, we should continue to support consultative dialogue among all actors to forge joint solutions to this menace and we look forward to your support and ideas.”<br /> <br /> As we indicated in an earlier statement, the Buhari Administration has so far done very well in asset recovery, asset return and transparent management of returned assets. The government has achieved the highest amounts in the recovery of stolen assets and achieved the highest number of convictions by any administration in the country so far. To this extent, several measures have been initiated for the strengthening of our asset recovery legislation, investigating agencies and the Auditor-General’s office, including through non-­conviction based confiscation powers and the introduction of unexplained wealth orders. The results Nigeria achieved came about as a result of these and other efforts and these are essential steps to initiation of sister African nations in the fight against corruption.<br /> <br /> Happily, the anti-corruption Champion, President Muhammadu Buhari says he is ready and available to give tutorials. This gives the continent a good starting point.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qIsREWcFhgg/WnJLWc2nr4I/AAAAAAADCdg/J4DZcOV_7pEwXd2FD5OUI8IDt5uSiTF9QCLcBGAs/s1600/pdp%2Bapc%2Bvs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="159" data-original-width="318" height="200" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qIsREWcFhgg/WnJLWc2nr4I/AAAAAAADCdg/J4DZcOV_7pEwXd2FD5OUI8IDt5uSiTF9QCLcBGAs/s400/pdp%2Bapc%2Bvs.jpg" width="400" /></a></div> <br /> The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the report of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on restructuring, describing it as a ruse and fresh attempt to beguile Nigerians with another round of lies, empty proposals and hollow promises ahead of the 2019 elections.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Saying that it is a recast of APC’s deceptive stunts in the run up to the 2015 general elections, the PDP also said the report is another calculated ploy by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to divert public attention from the woes of a worsening economy, unrelenting killings, corruption and the endless litany of afflictions occasioned by ruling party’s dysfunctional governance.<br /> <br /> In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party said it amounted to outright depravity that the same APC leaders who at assumption of office, rejected restructuring would now suddenly turn around to pose as fathers of a restructured Nigeria simply because the 2019 general elections beckon.<br /> <br /> It noted that the attitude and body language of APC leaders, including President Buhari, indicated that they have no intention of implementing any form of restructuring.<br /> <br /> The PDP recalled that President Buhari had in his 2018 New Year address to the nation, rejected the idea of restructuring when he declared that “when all the aggregates of nationwide opinions are considered, my firm view is that our problems are more to do with process than structure.”<br /> <br /> The opposition party also recalled that Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who chaired the APC Restructuring Committee, had vehemently denied reports that the ruling party ever promised restructuring.<br /> <br /> It cited a June 29, 2017 interview that El Rufai granted Channel Television where he described Nigerians who were clamouring for restructuring as “political opportunists and irresponsible people.”<br /> <br /> “This is in addition to a declaration by the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who in a Radio Nigeria (FRCN) interview programme on June 9, 2017, stated that restructuring is not President Buhari’s priority.<br /> <br /> “From Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, who was quoted to have said “to hell with restructuring,” to the totality of APC leaders, none believed in either true federalism or restructuring by any name called.<br /> <br /> “As a matter of fact, it is instructive to note that the APC refused to rally its members in the National Assembly to support or vote for any amendment that dwelt on restructuring when the federal legislature voted on sections of the constitution where amendments had been proposed in the direction of restructuring.<br /> <br /> “If anything, APC leaders have consistently criticised any amendment that spoke or had a semblance of restructuring or true federalism.<br /> <br /> “It is therefore deceptive that in the wake of their rejection by the people, the discredited APC and its dysfunctional government have suddenly woken up to parade as champions of a restructured Nigeria. This is a callous and wicked attempt to once again take Nigerians on a trip to the land of fantasy,” the statement added.<br /> <br /> The PDP urged Nigerians to reject what it described as the new ploy by the APC to deceive them for their votes in 2019.

Rotimi Amaechi”.<br /> <br /> The letter partly reads thus:<br /> <br /> I salute you in the New Year and wish all the people of Nigeria, especially, the poor and vulnerable masses, God’s blessings.  Life is full of vagaries, but the strong-willed shall always wither the storm.<br /> <br /> No doubt, we entered the New Year on a very sad note with renewed tempo of crises in some parts of the country, particularly the herders/farmers conflicts in parts of the North.  There has been loss of precious lives, destructions to properties, displacements of indigenous populations and terrifying dislocation of social and communal existence in once peaceful communities.<br /> <br /> We mourn with the bereaved and victims of these crises in Benue, Adamawa, Nasarawa, Plateau, Zamfara, Southern Kaduna and Taraba states among others. We feel the exactitude of the pains and the unbearable hardships imposed on everyone, including the families of the victims.<br /> <br /> At such difficult times, there is every reason to talk to ourselves, reason together and act in unison, to inspire the patriotic spirit in us to weaken and cripple the common enemy of our people and the nation.  This is certainly not the time to speak in discordant voices or hurl vituperations at our leaders or ourselves. It would rather widen the cracks and do us more harm. The leaders need our support and prayers now more than ever to overcome these challenges of nation-building.<br /> <br /> Let it not be lost on any mind and soul that nations of the world face these difficult times at intervals. But they do not last forever.  They emerge stronger and more focused. The case of Israel is apt. The collective efforts by leaders and backed by the citizenry have always surmounted these challenges.<br /> <br /> We all wish to have peace in our homes, communities and villages. We need peace in our places of works and worship centres. Any such disruption has far-reaching consequences.  But we also know that there are people among us who feel we don’t deserve the peace or right to life. We should resolve not to dance to their macabre dance anymore. Let’s reject them and their satanic proposals. Let’s cover their faces with mud and ask them to go and spit in hell, but not on the throne of our ancestors.<br /> <br /> Our dear President Muhammadu Buhari has found himself in these unfortunate circumstances. He is one Nigerian leader who has the country at heart.  But all over the world, leaders have supporters and friends as well as enemies or foes. The political enemies rather dig pitfalls for him to exploit its outcomes in furthering their personal political nests.  This is the time we need to be watchful, prayerful, conscious and alert. Or else, we are bound to be misled by the antics and machinations of evil opponents who are after plunging us into deep mess.<br /> <br /> We can attest that some reactions to the prevailing crisis in Nigeria are tailored towards politics and the struggle for the political soul of Nigeria in 2019. The opposing camps are singing melodies of destruction and evil against President Buhari in order to oust him out of power and reverse the gains of democracy under his watch in the last two years.  The masses of Nigeria must stand firm to resist such unholy interference from these political hawks and power mongers, who see nothing good in the leadership of others except themselves, but offer little or nothing when they are honoured with the privilege to serve.<br /> <br /> The simmering crises around the country are regrettable and efforts are being made by the Presidency to contain it.  Every leader has shortcomings. And that one problem could not be solved expeditiously or dexterously should not constitute blanket condemnation and nullification of a leadership. This was after successive governments, including the one headed by the letter-writer, squandered billions of dollars to fix electricity, but no positive results for 16 years.<br /> <br /> Look at his anti-corruption war. He has recovered looted commonwealth in quantums, no single leader of Nigeria has ever approximated since the establishment of the EFCC. Even though corruption is fighting back to regain its position of prominence in public affairs, but he has remained undaunted. Corruption is rightly the greatest enemy of Nigeria. And owe Buhari moral obligation to support him scuttle monster to a standstill.<br /> <br /> We can only sufficiently appreciate the forces massed against President Buhari for blocking all sources of revenue leakages and corrupt acts of public officials. But now they make a mountain out of a molehill when they hear about the embezzlement of N200 million.  But we all are living witnesses to the jamboree or the free feasting on national resources during the period these veiled forces held forth at Aso Villa.<br /> <br /> But today, they are claiming better knowledge. However, before their watchful eyes, the likes of Sen. Stella Oduah alone, as Aviation Minister could loot far more than this amount by a government midwifed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. When his protégé Femi Fani Kayode is grilled for embezzlement of public funds, he does not even feel remorseful.<br /> <br /> This is the time to stand up for President Buhari. We cannot afford to sacrifice him to these vermin in power. We must look at the Nigerian Project and interest as larger as and bigger than any individual.  We should not hesitate to troop out en masse to demonstrate our support for Mr. President, anytime, it is necessary. The battle line has been drawn between light and darkness and the die is cast.<br /> <br /> We must insist   in our actions and support that President Buhari must continue beyond 2019 to lead Nigeria to the Promise land. We should say No and reject any Coalition to backwardness, proposed by any self-cantered leader, who oppressed and enslaved us for the 16 years of the PDP’s misrule.  This is a clarion call for us to rise up in defence of our democracy against retrogressive forces before they return us to another phase of an inglorious history.<br /> <br /> The clock is fast ticking and its 2018 already and the best time that the hawks usually   come out to perfect our backwardness. Let’s avoid them like plaques. Let’s tell them in clear dictions that   #WeStandWithNigeria and cannot go back again to the dungeon of darkness. #WeStandWithBuhari because of our implicit confidence in him to resolve all the emerging problems orchestrated by these masked forces and the latter-day prophets of doom. Disillusionment is not the solution now, but positive thoughts and actions.<br /> <br /> Once again, I appreciate your patience, endurance and support to these twin projects- standing to be counted for Nigeria and the Buhari Presidency.”</div>

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"> <div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tk_-FA5wQho/WnGmu5hLqVI/AAAAAAAAlU8/uxuxjcUAkpMAC6qdaKFo0Ul4uPDxF09QgCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/ffk.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="206" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tk_-FA5wQho/WnGmu5hLqVI/AAAAAAAAlU8/uxuxjcUAkpMAC6qdaKFo0Ul4uPDxF09QgCK4BGAYYCw/s320/ffk.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> The trial of a former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, for an alleged fraud of N4.9bn was stalled on Wednesday due to his absence from the Federal High Court in Lagos.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> Counsel for the ex-minister, Mr. Norrison Quakers (SAN), told the court that his client was unable to make it to court as he had been hospitalised for a heart disease.<br /> <br /> While praying the court to grant him an adjournment, Quakers promised to furnish the court with a medical report to back Fani-Kayode’s claim of ill health.<br /> <br /> The adjournment prayer was not opposed by the prosecuting counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo.<br /> <br /> But the prosecutor urged the presiding judge, Justice Rilwan Aikawa, to observe the provision of Section 396(4) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, which stipulated that no party, in a criminal case, could have more than five adjournments.<br /> <br /> Oyedepo noted that already, the case had been adjourned twice at Fani-Kayode’s instance.<br /> <br /> After hearing the parties out, Justice Aikawa adjourned the case till February 28 and March 1 and 2, 2018.<br /> <br /> The EFCC arraigned Fani-Kayode on 17 counts of money laundering alongside a former Minister of State for Finance, Nenadi Usman, who was listed as the first defendant in the charge.<br /> <br /> The third and fourth defendants in the case are one Danjuma Yusuf and a company, Joint Trust Dimensions Limited.<br /> <br /> The charges border on alleged conspiracy, unlawful retention of proceeds of theft and money laundering.<br /> <br /> Fani-Kayode, who was the Director of Publicity of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s presidential campaign organisation for the 2015 election, was accused of conspiring with the others to, directly and indirectly, retain various sums, which the EFCC claimed they ought to have reasonably known were proceeds of crime.<br /> <br /> In one of the counts, the defendants were accused of conspiring among themselves to “indirectly retain the sum of N1,500, 000,000.00 which sum you reasonably ought to have known forms part of the proceeds of an unlawful act to wit: stealing.”<br /> <br /> The four were also accused of indirectly retaining N300m, N400m and N800m, all proceeds of corruption, according to EFCC.<br /> <br /> Fani-Kayode was accused of directly using parts of the money at various times, including a N250,650,000.00, which he allegedly used between March 20 and 25, 2015.<br /> <br /> Fani-Kayode was also accused of making a cash transaction of N24m with one Olubode Oke, said to still be at large, on February 12, 2015 “to Paste Poster Co of 125, Lewis Street, Lagos Island.”<br /> <br /> The duo were said to have made the transaction without going through any financial institution, an act the EFCC claimed was contrary to sections 1(a) and 16(d) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) (Amendment) Act, 2012, and punishable under Section 16(2)(b) of the same Act.<br /> <br /> But the defendants pleaded not guilty.‎</div>

Sani Kukasheka, made the disclosure in a statement issued in Maiduguri.<br /> <br /> Kukasheka said that the army had begun construction of access road to open the forest and link  communities around.<br /> <br /> He listed the projects as Gwoza-Yamtake-Bita-Tokumbere-Sambisa and Gwoza-Yamtake-Bita roads.<br /> <br /> “In its efforts to make Sambisa forest habitable and also training ground, the Nigerian Army is following up the ongoing clearance operations with road construction into main heartland of the forest and adjoining communities.<br /> <br /> “Already, work has commenced in earnest on Gwoza-Yamteke-Bitta road, as well as the reconstruction of the road from Gwoza-Yamteke-Bitta-Tokumbere, leading into Tokum forest”.<br /> <br /> The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the military authorities had set up a military training facility in Sambisa Forest after dislodging the insurgents’ tactical ground at Camp Zero.<br /> <br /> Also, the Borno State Government on Monday restricted vehicular movement on three major roads in the state, to prevent fleeing insurgents from escaping military offensive from infiltrating into the communities.</div>

Mahmoud Isa-Dutse, recommended that Mr. Gwarzo should refund the N104, 851, 154.94 which he illegally collected as severance package from SEC.<br /> <br /> Sources said that it was recommended that Mr. Gwarzo be referred to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for further investigation of the allegation of using his position as Director-General to influence the award of contracts to Outbound Investments Limited in view of provisions of Sections 57 (12) (b) and 58 (5) of the Public Procurement Act, 2007.<br /> <br /> On the other senior staff:  Mrs. Anastasia Braimoh and Mr. Abdulsalam Naif, who ran into trouble along with Mr. Gwarzo, the panel recommended that they be referred to SEC for appropriate disciplinary actions, in line with the provisions of the Staff Manual of SEC.<br /> <br /> Within a week of his appointment as D-G of SEC in May, 2015 Mr. Gwarzo requested that he be paid the sum of N104.8 million as severance package in respect of the end of his appointment as Executive Commissioner, a position he occupied for two years and four months.<br /> <br /> The request, made via a memo dated May 26, 2015, was referred to Mrs. Chukwuogor Franca, then acting Head of Legal Department.<br /> <br /> It was learnt that Mrs. Chukwuogor advised against honouring the request made by the then DG, as according to her, the D-G was still working in SEC.  In spite of the legal advice, Mr. Gwarzo had his way.<br /> <br /> On his breach of PSR by holding his position as director in two private companies while working in SEC, the panel, as learnt obtained Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) documents which indicated that Mr. Gwarzo was still listed as a shareholder as at November 7, 2017.<br /> <br /> It was learnt that the former D-G told the panel that he resigned his directorship of the said companies in 2012, contrary to CAC documents.<br /> <br /> It was equally established that he was still a signatory to the bank account of Medusa Investment Limited with one of the new generation banks, as at the time the panel was sitting.<br /> <br /> “When the panel confronted Mr. Gwarzo with copies of letters dates 24 July, 2015 (Request for Change of Account Officer) and that of 16th August 2016 (Request for Naira Credit Card for Directors of Medusa Investments Limited) he admitted to have authored and signed the said letters , but claimed that it was a regrettable action,” it was learnt.<br /> <br /> The ruling is  coming after the feud between Oando Plc and one of the shareholders of the company, Alhaji Dahiru Mangal over shareholding structure has come to an end following the intervention of Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on the matter recently.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, at the public hearing on the conflict between Minister of Finance and the suspended Director General of SEC, organised by House of Representative Committee in Capital Markets and other Institutions, Adeosun told the Committee chaired by Rep Tajudeen Yusuf, PDP, Kogi that “Munir remains suspended and I’m sending my recommendations to Mr. President today (Tuesday).”<br /> <br /> Gwarzo through his Counsel, GUK  Igwe, SAN, in his submission had also noted that the Minister does not have such a right to suspend the DG.<br /> <br /> The Finance Minister explained that the Ministry approved the Commission’s recommendations on the technical suspension of the shares of Oando Plc, which was forwarded barely a week after the suspension was imposed on the oil firm.<br /> <br /> While responding to Gwarzo’s allegations bothering on having shares in Oando Plc as levelled against her, Adeosun,  dismissed the report, saying that she has no shares nor  does any member of her family has single share in the oil company.<br /> <br /> On his part, Christopher Gabriel, Head of Legal Services in Federal Ministry of Finance contended that Gwarzo’s interests contravened the Code of Conduct for Public Officers set out in the 5th Schedule of the Constitution, Section 311 of the Penal Code Act and Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act.<br /> <br /> He said contrary to the position of Gwarzo that the “Minister cannot suspend him, technically she can suspend SEC DG.<br /> <br /> Speaking earlier, Munir Gwarzo, the suspended SEC Director General alleged that the Minister, who had earlier queried him over the proposed forensic audit of Oando Plc, eventually approved it.<br /> <br /> Reacting to allegations bothering on  corrupt practices and other related offences , Gwarzo admitted being a director and shareholder in Outbound Investment Limited, Northwind Environmental Services and Micro-Technologies Nigeria Limited.<br /> <br /> It was alleged that Gwarzo diverted to personal use vehicles belonging to SEC despite collecting N84.3 million as monetized allowances for four cars, an action that is in breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, Section 311 of the Penal Code Act and Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, in  his opening remarks, Yusuf Tajudeen, chairman, House Committee on Capital Market and other Institutions noted that the lingering risks if left unchecked may impact negatively on the capital market, hence the prompt intervention of the House to promote mutual harmony and investment drive into the economy. He assured all parties that the Committee will be fair, firm and frank when and where necessary.</div>

In his book titled, ‘My Command’, you will see that Obasanjo blamed all the actors in the Civil War from Murtala Muhammed to Benjamin Adekunle. The only person he exonerated was himself.<br /> <br /> “In ‘My Watch’, he claimed the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo was not the leader of the Yoruba and even attacked him. He castigated his Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar.”<br /> <br /> Badmus said Obasanjo should stop trying to impose his will on Nigerians, adding that the former President lacked the right to act as the conscience of the nation.<br /> <br /> He said the former President, who attempted to perpetuate himself in power, lacked the moral right to tell another person not to contest for a second term.<br /> <br /> Badmus said, “You spent eight years and attempted to get four more years. You don’t have the moral right to tell someone who has not spent up to four years not to spend an additional four years. He added that they currently had no intention to return to the PDP.<br /> <br /> The governor also urged those commenting on the matter to read the said interview properly, rather than relying on social media headlines and insinuations to draw uninformed conclusions.<br /> <br /> He also advised disgruntled elements within the APC that were urging him and Saraki to hasten their exit from the party to educate themselves with that interview and be appropriately informed instead of making what he called, ‘misguided comments’ on issues they had no knowledge of.<br /> <br /> He restated his full support for the APC government of President Muhammadu Buhari.<br /> <br /> He commended Buhari for his strides in governing the country and for the unprecedented federal projects in Kwara State, which he added, were aided by the intervention of Saraki.<br /> <br /> Meanwhile, the Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Dr. Ali Ahmad, has said that the Assembly has no intention to muzzle or gag the media.<br /> <br /> He expressed commitment to freedom of expression as enshrined in the constitution, adding that such expression and freedom of the media must be within the confines of the law.<br /> <br /> He stated that a recent resolution of the Assembly  was not meant to and should not be misconstrued to mean a clamp down on the media or the opposition.<br /> <br /> The Assembly following what it called a flagrant disregard of the Code of the National  Broadcasting Commission, had urged the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Kamaldeen Ajibade  to make a strong representation to the hierarchy of the NBC on the need for broadcast stations in the state to comply with the Broadcasting Code or face sanction.<br /> <br /></div>

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"> <div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7iW20pSr5Lk/WnGITJMMbvI/AAAAAAAAlTI/sMQnsYgsKe43tJrM_plTxjt__1e8ykFZwCK4BGAYYCw/s1600/inec.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7iW20pSr5Lk/WnGITJMMbvI/AAAAAAAAlTI/sMQnsYgsKe43tJrM_plTxjt__1e8ykFZwCK4BGAYYCw/s320/inec.jpg" width="320" /></a></div> The Independent National Electoral Commission says apart from giving physical copies of results of the 2019 elections to party agents, it will also be announcing the results electronically.<br /> <a name='more' id="more"></a><br /> <br /> INEC, therefore, called on telecoms service providers to assist the commission.<br /> <br /> The Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said this when he visited the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Prof. Umar Danbatta, in Abuja on Tuesday.<br /> <br /> He said the same mechanism would be used in the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections in July and September, respectively.<br /> <br /> Yakubu said, “We are planning for full deployment (of electronic and manual transmission) this year in governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun. Thereafter we intend to deploy the system in the 2019 general elections.<br /> <br /> “INEC has developed the hardware and software. However, we rely on the operators for the transmission of both the figures and scanned images of result sheets. We wish to assure Nigerians that while we transmit the raw figures from polling units, scanned images of the result sheets will also be transmitted electronically in addition to physical copies given to party agents at polling units.”<br /> <br /> Yakubu appealed to the NCC as the regulator to facilitate a meeting between INEC and the telecommunications operators with the aim of assisting the electoral body in the conduct of the election.<br /> <br /> The INEC boss added, “Similarly, we would like the NCC to facilitate discussions with operators on ways of enhancing their corporate social responsibility to Nigeria’s electoral process. An immediate area of interest to INEC is how the operators can help in voter education and publicity.<br /> <br /> “Towards the 2019 general elections, we would like the operators in collaboration with INEC, to send bulk SMS and possibly voice messages as well on the imperative of peaceful elections, the collection of Permanent Voter Cards by registered voters and directional information on the location of polling units for easy access to voters.”<br /> <br /> In his response, the Executive Vice-Chairman of the NCC said his agency would try to help the electoral body to ensure that the 2019 elections are free, fair and credible.<br /> <br /> Dabatta said the NCC would try to improve the security of the communications system before the 2019 election so that it would be effective for the dissemination of election results.<br /> <br /></div>
